Hikawamaru
This is a 1:700 scale 'Kit Assembly,' built by Thomas Richter.
The early building stages.
Waterline diorama. Just for fun I set the Hikawamaru in the display of my ‘Big U’. I confess I used a little photo-painting to create water all around - and some smoke.
Back to full hull. From my Titanic to Olympic conversion in 1/1200 I had two Titanic Hulls left over. The Titanic hull is just a little shorter and less wide. So I used four pieces of hull and touched up the gap in between - plus filling in the gap of the no longer needed 3rd prop. The hull plating almost matches. Just a little scratch-building with a lot of effect.
Finished model on its display stand.
Stern area with Titanic prop and ruder. I removed the thick white line decals originally supplied with the kit (ok, I ruined them while scratch-building the lower hull) and replaced them with the ones that come with the Revel QE2, which are thinner and more to scale.
Bow area. Note the added P/E stairs and railings.
